Accenture's State of Cybersecurity Resilience 2025
Cybersecurity must be integrated into all AI initiatives by design. AI-driven threats are evolving faster than defenses. Geopolitics, changing trade, and regulations also introduce new cyber risks.
Only 36% of technology leaders believe AI is outpacing their security capabilities. 90% of companies lack maturity to counter AI threats. 77% lack foundational data and AI security practices. Only 42% balance AI development and security investment, with just 28% embedding security from the outset of transformation initiatives. 83% of executives cite workforce limitations as a major barrier.
Organizations fall into three security posture maturity zones:
Reinvention-Ready Zone (10%): Robust capabilities and integrated strategy. These companies are 69% less likely to experience advanced attacks and have a 1.5 times higher success rate in blocking attacks.
Progressing Zone (27%): Strong strategy but weak implementation (24%) or strong protection but lacking strategic alignment (3%).
Exposed Zone (63%): Lacking both strategy and capability, making them prime targets.
To strengthen AI security, organizations must take four actions:
Develop a fit-for-purpose security governance framework: Establish clear accountability and align AI security with regulatory and business objectives.
Design the Digital Core to be generative AI-secure from the outset: Embed advanced security controls, ensure secure-by-design cloud for AI, strengthen identity and access management with Zero Trust, and secure AI data and applications.
Maintain resilient AI systems: Strengthen AI defenses with threat intelligence, continuous monitoring, proactive testing, and build effective AI incident response plans. Address AI supply chain risks.
Reinvent cybersecurity with generative AI: Automate threat response, use AI security agents for efficiency, and fortify digital trust with AI-driven access intelligence.
Security is a strategic enabler of innovation, trust, and long-term success.
